Bonjour j'ai besoins d'aide svp ^^ !!!
For thousands of years, North America was populated mainly by Native Americans and was mostly unknown to Europe. In the late 16th century, Europeans began arriving in North America; they found a land with many natural resources and began to claim parts of it. While the French moved into the north and the Spanish settled in the south and west, the British *founded colonies on the east coast. The British settlers went to these new lands for many reasons. Some wanted to make money or set up trade with their home country while others wanted religious freedom. In the mid-18th century, a war was fought between England and France over which nation would control North America. The consequences of that conflict led directly to the American Revolution. It all started in the late 17th century when these two European powers began to compete for
the tremendous resources found in the new world. While the French focused on *furs, mostly
obtained from the *native tribes, the English worked to develop colonies that could harvest
many of the natural gifts of the land and send these *raw materials back to England.
By the middle of the 18th century, there were about 60,000 inhabitants of New France, largely
based along the St. Lawrence River. In contrast, about 1.5 million Englishmen were living in
colonial America, mostly along the Atlantic coast from Massachusetts in the north to Georgia
in the south.
The *colonists from Britain, who from then on called themselves “Americans”, were forced to
pay taxes to England and of course, were very unhappy about it.
This unhappiness would eventually lead to a clash between the Americans and the British
and lead to the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). When the British were defeated at
the end of the war, America was free to take the first steps toward creating a new system of
government.
1 North America has been populated by Europeans for several thousands of years.
2 The first Europeans began arriving in North America in 1776.
3 The first European settlers came from Britain, France and Spain.
4 Some British settlers went to America to be able to practise whatever religion they wanted.
5 The war that broke out between France and England in the 18th century had a direct impact on the fate of the American people.
6 The British settlers were only interested in the fur trade.
7 By the mid-18th century, there were as many French settlers as
British settlers in America.
8 The British settled on the west coast.
9 The colonists from Britain were angry about having to pay taxes to
the British king.
10 They eventually lost the war of independence against Britain.
c'est un exercice de vrai ou faux ^^
