The story takes place in Billund, Denmark in 1932.Ole Kirk Christiansen is a
carpenter an he is the boss of his COMPANY
Times are very HARD and the company goes bankrupt.
Ole is very poor and he must FIRE ( renvoyer, licencier ) all his employees.
Unfortunately his WIFE dies and the situation is desperate.
He has four young SONS who are very sad because they lost their
MOTHER. Ole has an idea: « What if I make wooden TOYS? »
One day, a SALESMAN goes to Ole’s shop.
He is very impressed by the QUALITY of the wooden toys. He decides to
BUY a lot of them.
Fortunately, his son GODTFRED gives Ole a hand. Ole EMPLOYS his
former worker and they are all very BUSY.
In the middle of their work, they learn that the salesman company goes
BANKRUPT. Ole decides to SELL the toys himself in order to have some
MONEY and food for Christmas.
Ole is very good at making toys but he isn’t good at selling them!
In the shops, people don’t have money butt they give him FOOD
instead.
Ole finds a NAME for his company: LEGO ( it means « to put together » in
LATIN)
The company makes profit and they buy MACHINES.
One day in 1942, his workshop BURNS and Ole loses hope!
Finally, he designs a brand-new FACTORY.
At the end of the day, LEGO becomes an INTERNATIONAL brand.
A lot of CHILDREN love it, throughout the world.
