Dès qu'il aperçoit Yvain, le Chevalier Noir galope dans sa direction.
Il tente de percer son haubert mais le brave chevalier esquive son coup.
Yvain tire son épée et le coupe au bras. Le chevalier noir n'a pas dit son dernier mot. Il frappe son adversaire avec sa masse mais le brave chevalier lui attrape le bras et lui brise les os avec sa force spectaculaire.
Pour mettre fin à ce terrible combat, il lui coupa le bras, lui coupa la jambe, lui coupa les yeux, et pour mettre fin à ce terrible combat il lui coupa la tête.
Yvain, ce brave chevalier, repart heureux de sa victoire et quitte les lieux couvert de sang.
