Bonjour,
Bansky is a British artist who was born in the 1970s in Bristol. He is anti-capitalist and anti-war. He drawing his graffiti all over the worl. He did this pieve of street art about child labout in 2012.
It is a picture of a young boy who is wearing a cap and simple cheap clothes, and he's working on a sewing machine. He is kneeling on the ground, his position doesn't seem comfortable. He looks serious, focused on his work.
Usually, graffiti artists use paints are colourful : blue, white and red. It's the Union Flag, the British flag. The flags are not a hanging they are graffiti objects, and they are made in front of the wall. So the boy is in 2D, but he looks like he's sewing real flags, in 3D. It's a clever visual illusion, a trompe l'oeil.
When passers-by see the graffiti they probably feel surprised and confused. Maybe also feel ashamed because they buy those flags and cheaps clothes made by children. The graffiti makes us think of the problem of child labour : nowadays about 168 million worlwide are child labourers. It's not just a problem in Africa or Asia, but also in the UK and the USA.
Bansky painted this graffiti on the wall of a shop named Poundland. it's not in a museum, so people who go to Poundland see the picture every time they walk past. Poundland is a chain of shops where you can buy everything for £1. In London, British people bought lots of flag to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.
Bansky here is making a political statement : he makes us think about the consequences of our actions. We have to be logical : we can't condemn chil labour on the one hand, and then buy cheap things made by children. We need to make choises and be responsible consumers.
En espérant avoir pu t'aider : )
