I heard the footsteps approaching and wondered who could be walking around so late at night. My parents weren't supposed to be home yet because they told me they would be back at around 1 am but it was still only 11 pm. My siblings told me they were going to sleep as they were both very tired. Who could it have been? I was nervous and scared. "Should I go out and check?", I thought to myself. But what if it's a robber, what will I do then? I searched for the pepper spray in my bag and took it with me before leaving my room. It was dark but I could slightly make out the silhouette of a person. "Who are you and what are you doing here?", I asked while nearing closer to the light switch. "Relax Maddie! It's just me, your brother. You don't have to be scared. I was just looking for our cat because I realised I forgot to fill his bowl of water" I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Phew..
