When you are born you are given an identity through your name. A name helps differentiate you from others.

They carry your personnality, your culture, your historical.
They give us a sense of who we are, the communities in which we belong and our place in the world
The terms used to refer to Black Americans change with time, because times change and words have to change along with them. They were named african colored negro black afro american.. the evolution of names reflects a difficult quest for cultural and racial identity.
