Levi strauss came from a small town in the south of Germany. When he was a young man, he felt in love with the mayor's daughter. But the mayor and Levi's parents not wanted them to marry. So his parents sent him away to New York where his brothers lived. They were tailors, and they taught him sew. In 1850 Levi took some cloth form New York to San Francisco for his brothers. It was thick strong cloth for making sails for boats. On the way, Levi met some men who were looking for gold in a riber. The weather was bad, it rained and the wind blowed. The men were cold because they wored thin trousers. Suddenly, Levi had an idea ! He used the cloth which he took to San Francisco to make a good strong trousers for the men. The men loved the new trousers but they not liked the light colour. So when Levi Strauss opened a shop for trousers in San Francisco, he bought a special blue cloth from France. That's how the first jeans became blue.
