Introduction
This document is a painting which comes from the web and it was used for the cover of Saturday Evening post on February 13, 1960. It was painted by Norman Rockwell in 1960. The name of this work-of-art is « Triple Self Portrait. ».
Description
On the portrait we can spot Norman Rockwell's back. This latter is sat on a yellow and red stool. He faces a white painting and leans on the left side in order to watch his image in a mirror located on a chair, on his left. This golden mirror is decorated with an eagle, thus we can suppose it's the American eagle which is the US symbol.
The right hand of the painter is lifted, and it holds a paintbrush brushing the painting, where the drawn-portrait of Rockwell in black and white can be seen, since we can catch a glimpse of his pipe and the man has got the same haircut as his one. He wears sunglasses which hide his eyes and smokes whereas on the painting he hasn't got any glass. He looks way younger than the reality.
On the right side of the picture are hung the reproductions of four self-portraits. We reckon those are Dürer's, Rembrant's, Picasso's and Van Gogh's ones. Above the trestle there's a fireman helmet.
There are several little details in the picture such as a glass balancing on a opened book, a white tissue coming out from the left back pocket of his trousers, paintbrushes on the floor (about 5)... Just in front of the painter is located a well filled bucket : in it there are torn papers which are likely to burn because there is some smoke. We can suppose it is linked with an event from the past which shocked him... The main colours used are blue (for the painter's shirt), the white and the red (the chair, and the stool). These are the colours of the American flag. The only part of the painting in black and white is the portrait in the portrait. We can notice that the picture isn't signed in the bottom right. As it is signed on the portrait in the picture, we tend to think it is just an unusual fact.
There are three portraits on this image. The first is the drawing in the picture itself, the second is the painter whose back is his only visible part, and the third is the reflect of the face and of the chest of Rockwell in the mirror.
I don't know why I chose this picture, maybe because we had to.
Juste une chose, evites de dire ce genre de chose. Tu pourrais dire que cette représentation triple du peintre est tout simplement du génie (il ne faut pas peser les mots). Libre à toi de remplacer ou non la dernière phrase par la suivante :
I think I chose this work-of-art of Rockwell because it is just a very well worked thing...He was just a genius, all the cleverness of the painter was not to make just one self-portrait just like the others, but to represent himself in three different point of views : his back, his face and chest, and finally his body in general.
