A wall for street artists
I am starting this petition in the hope that Medway Council will be kind enough to construct
designated walls for street artists in the Medway Towns. The problem I see is that public people
don't appreciate graffiti as art, and see it as mindless vandalism Yet speaking to street artists and
various creative people, it is more a way of expressing themselves visually
Admittedly there is a type of graffiti known as togs or tagging in which the artist isn't necessarily
looking for a visually pleasing piece of art - the goal in tagging is to get your tag in as many places
as possible. But the majority of street artists only
want to create a piece of art that holds a message
or meaning, and most of the time it is aimed at making things better for the people and the planet.
Building a designated wall, I believe, will considerably improve the unwanted vandalism. Instead
of artists having to illegally spread their art on private walls Ihus creating a conflict between artist
and non-artist, it will create a place for people to freely express their work and appreciate others.
This project will only be able to go ahead if many different people sign this petition and show their
views and opinions
