In the right and left hand corner, there's two mans who seems to be of security. They are black mans.

In the foreground there's a little black girl who is going to school but with protection

In the background there's a wall with a graffiti and with a mark of tomato and at the bottom the fruit who left that mark.

I suppose, I like this post (ce n'est pas un dessin) because it show us the high level of racism black people suffer at those times. How dangerouse it was like for a little black girl go alone to school without suffering discrimination from white people.

Bonjour,

This document is a painting  by Norman Rockwell .

The scene takes place in a street.

In the foreground there is a little girl. Her face has no expression, she seems concentrated. She is walking, and as She has a ruler, a copy book and pencils  in her left hand we can say that she is going to school. The little girl is a black girl. She is wearing a white dress, white shoes and socks. If we have a look at her right hand, we can see her tight fist which suggests that she is stressed but determined.

In the background there is a wall with the word «N I G G E R » written on it. There is also a mark on the wall and a tomato on the ground, suggestion that someone  thrown her the tomato.

On the left and on the right sides there are four men. We don’t see their faces. They’re wearing suits, they have armbands. It is written «  US Marshals » on their armbands. We can then say that they are here to protect the little girl. Norman Rockwell underlines that the law is on the little girl’s side despite the violent reactions of racist people.

I like the way the artist denounces violence and hate.

Explications :

Norman Rockwell painted The Problem We All Live With in 1964.

The little girl on the painting is Ruby Bridges, she was 6 at that time .She was the first African American girl to go to an all white public school.

Légende de la photo jointe : Ruby Bridges and marshals leaving William Frantz Elementary School, New Orleans, 1960. She was escorted both to and from the school while segregationist protests continued.
