As you know, last year, between the wildfires and the health crises, we have been through a lot. We have made many compromises and we have survived 2020. But the reason for all of the struggles we went through is climate change.
Every year, about 8 billion tonnes of highly polluting coal is burned, and the global fuel consumption by commercial airlines reached 96 billion gallons in 2019 only.
Today, the Arctic is warming twice as fast as anywhere on earth, and the sea ice there is declining by more than 10% every 10 years. By polluting too much, we are putting ecosystems in danger and we are causing deforestation. We are even risking the lives of some species that could and are becoming extinct.
However, we can solve this problem., due to the coronavirus pandemic, the fuel consumption dropped to only 51 billion gallons in 2020. We have to be aware and take action. By using solar power, using more public transportation, buying more eco-friendly products, reducing water waste, and making efforts, we can save the planet and live better. But most of all, we have to work together to make a difference.
