Sagot :
Dear Professor Didier Houssin, Dear members and advisers of the Emergency Committee, Dear colleagues and friends, First, let me warmly welcome you to the fifth meeting of the IHR Emergency Committee on COVID-19. Since the Committee's last meeting in July, there have been many developments, both positive and negative. We now know much more about the virus. The epidemiological picture, but also the treatment options are better understood. We have gathered evidence and best practices to break the chains of transmission. We have learned to react in a more targeted and adapted way. But we are also facing new difficulties. We are particularly concerned about the difficulties in involving people in the action and the way in which the response is politicized. This pandemic is far from over. We all need to adapt our intervention from a long-term perspective. To lead a coherent response over time, strong leadership is needed, mobilizing all public authorities and all of society. In addition, the mental health dimension must be fully integrated into all interventions. Appropriate indicators should also be adopted to reflect the diversity of situations in a country and region to region, both in terms of severity and epidemiological picture. In particular, it will be necessary to be able to measure the burden borne by health systems and in particular hospitals. This will allow the measures to be reviewed and improved based on scientific data and rigorous public health risk assessments. Managing risk means taking action based on the scientific data available, showing solidarity, transparency and inclusiveness. In the absence of certainty and when there is a lack of evidence, measurements should be evaluated regularly and corrected along the way if necessary. Seeking to respond to uncertainties and addressing socio-economic consequences will build confidence in those leading the response. Basic epidemiological interventions, such as contact tracing and surveillance, remain the most important
