Joseph Robinette Biden Junior was born on November 20, 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Son of Joseph R. Biden, a car salesman and Catherine Finnegan, he was the eldest of a tribe of five children. He was 10 years old when the whole family moved to the small state of Delaware following a setback. His childhood is marked by a stuttering which earned him the taunts of his comrades. The little boy overcomes this handicap by reciting poetry in front of his mirror. As a teenager, Joe Biden devoted himself to his studies and chose a course in law at Syracuse University from which he graduated in 1968.
In November 1972, he was elected senator in Delaware, on the eve of his 30th birthday. After an amateur campaign, with the help of one of his sisters they made homemade leaflets, he becomes the youngest senator of the United States. Member of the Democratic Party, he has had a brilliant career within the institution; from 1987 to 1995 he chaired the Judicial and Criminal Committee of the Senate before taking the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee from 2002. In 1987, he decided to launch himself in the race for the White House with a view to the election presidential election in November 1988. But Joe Biden was quickly forced to abandon his candidacy in the face of controversy; he plagiarized Neil Kinnock, leader of the British Labor Party, in one of his campaign speeches. At the same time, his health problems - double cerebral aneurysm - took him away from the political scene for a few months. Pugnacious, Joe Biden does it again twenty years later when he is again candidate for the Democratic nomination for the presidential election of 2008. Withdrawn from the race in January 2008, his outspokenness coupled with a seasoned experience in foreign policy earned him to be chosen by his former rival Barack Obama as running mate. On November 4, 2008, when Barack Obama was elected president of the United States, he became vice-president. In January 2009, before taking the oath, he resigned his mandate as senator from Delaware after 36 years of good and loyal service. In November 2012, he was re-elected as vice president of the United States.
On the private side, Joe Biden married Neilia in 1966 with whom he had three children; two boys, Beau, Hunter and a girl Naomi. But on December 18, 1972, he lost his wife and daughter in a tragic car accident. His two sons, also victims of the accident, were hospitalized for several weeks. In 1977, Joe Biden remarried with Jill Tracy Jacobs. From their union, a baby girl, Ashley, was born in 1981. A new drama strikes the family, on May 30, 2015, Joe Biden's eldest son, Beau Biden, dies of brain cancer at the age of 46 years.
