BRITAIN'S TEENAGE CHEF
Meet Sam Stem, Great Britain's youngest new celebrity chef. The 16-year-old has written two
cookbooks for teenagers and wants to change the way British teenagers eat.
5
Cool and cute, Sam Stern is already a celebrity chef in Britain - aged 16! He has been on
British TV, and has met lots of chefs from the BBC "Good Food Show". Sam became famous
after the publication of his first book, Cooking Up a Storm, in 2005.
Sam has just published his second book - Real Food Real Fast - in the UK. The books are
colourful and full of great recipes that are easy to follow, and they are especially for teenagers.
"I've tried to include situations that people my age might find themselves in. There's
information on dealing with exam stress, and on cooking for girls," says Sam.
HIS FIRST COOKBOOK
10
Sam got the idea to write a book when his brother went to university and kept phoning and
asking for recipes.
"Me and my Mum started writing down recipes for him. Then I noticed that a lot of my friends
were just heating up ready meals and pizza, and I wanted to do something to get them cooking,"
Sam says. "It's all about time and how to fit great cooking and eating into your speedy lifestyle."
HEALTHY FOOD FOR TEENS
15
Today, children in Great Britain eat more fast food than children in any other European
country.
Many of them prefer junk food like hamburgers, chips and crisps. But Sam's cookbooks could
change that and help teenagers in Britain realize that cooking fresh food can be fun and healthy.
He says: "Fast food doesn't have to be junk food." Do you agree?
