Bonjour,
James Cook was an English navigator, explorer and cartographer, born on 27 October 1728 in Marton (Middlesbrough) and died on 14 February 1779 in Hawaii.
Born to peasant parents in north York, England, he worked in Whitby Harbour at the age of 13. Between 1741 and 1754 he sailed on coal barges in the North Sea. In 1755 he joined the Royal Navy and was appointed captain in 1768. This sailor is known to have drawn very precise maps.
In particular, he discovers the New Caledonia on September 4, 1774, as well as the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii). In 1759 he married Elizabeth Batts of Shadwell.
J'espère t'avoir aider dans ton devoir.
Réponse : James Cook was born in Marton-in-Cleveland in England in 1728. At the age of 18 he was offered an apprenticeship by John Walker a Quaker coal-shipper of small seaside village near Whitby. This experience was beneficial for the future naval captain and explorer as he was constantly in contact with both the ocean and ships. Cook eventually joined the British Navy and, at age 29, was promoted to ship's master. In 1768 he took command of the first scientific expedition to the Pacific. In 1770, Cook mapped New Zealand and the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. This area has since been recognized as one of the most dangerous areas in the world to navigate. Cook also had secret instructions to determine the existence of a southern continent proposed by geographic philosophers. He charted Tonga, Easter Island, New Caledonia, the South Sandwich Islands and South Georgia, and refuted the existence of Terra Australis, a legendary continent of the south. Cook named the Hawaiian Islands the Sandwich Islands after the Earl of Sandwich, also known as John Montagu. Cook's journeys helped guide generations of explorers and provided the first accurate map of the Pacific.
Explications : J'ai essayé de faire court mais il faut admettre que c'est difficile de résumer un tel parcours. J'espère que ça t'aidera.
